What Canadian Casinos Check Before Paying You Out

The rules behind identity checks come from anti-money-laundering law rather than from an operator's preferences. That is why the requests feel inflexible, and why the same documents come up everywhere.

This covers a Dogg House account specifically, but the same rules govern most operators taking Canadian players.

Why Address Proof Fails Most Often

Address documents cause more back-and-forth than the other two, and the reasons repeat. Cell phone bills are refused by many operators because numbers travel between provinces and prove nothing. What people usually upload from a banking app is exported transaction history, which carries no address; the full monthly statement PDF from RBC, TD or Scotiabank does show your mailing address, so download that instead. Anything older than 90 days is dead on arrival. And “Apt 4, 219 Bathurst” on the bill will not match “219 Bathurst St Unit 4” in your profile. Fix the profile first, then pick a hydro, water or property tax bill.

Not Every Provincial Card Is Photo ID

Reviewers see cards from thirteen issuers and treat them very differently. A BC Services Card issued in its non-photo form is not identification at all, and a health card is turned away in most of the country. Non-drivers are covered: Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan all issue a provincial photo ID card that passes wherever a licence does, and a permanent resident card or a Secure Certificate of Indian Status carries the same weight federally. Take the card out of any plastic sleeve or RFID wallet first, because the sleeve on an enhanced licence blurs the holographic overlay a reviewer checks for. Send the back as well as the front.

Keep a Record of Every Upload

Build a small folder before you send anything. Save each file with the date and purpose in the name, note the ticket number and timestamp of every submission, and screenshot the confirmation page. When a support agent says a document was never received in week two, that log settles it in one message. Add a light watermark across the copy reading “for verification only” with the date — it does not bother the reviewer and makes a stolen scan harder to reuse. Then clear the originals out of your phone's camera roll and downloads folder, and never email documents to an address a chat agent typed in.

What You May Black Out on a Statement

When a statement is sent as proof of address, a reviewer needs four things from it: your name, your address, the institution's name and the date. Everything else can be covered. Blacking out individual transactions is normal and will not get a document refused, and hiding the balance is usually accepted too. What does get a file returned is obscuring a corner that contains part of the address, cropping the header with the bank's logo, or sending one page from the middle of a statement carrying no identifying information at all. Send the first page whole, with only the transaction lines obscured.

The Check Is Usually Run by a Third Party

The company reading your passport is often not the casino. Operators buy identity checking from specialist providers, whose software runs forgery detection first and escalates to a human only on a flag. That is why a rejection sometimes arrives within seconds and with no explanation, and why resubmitting the same document in better light frequently works. It also means your file sits with a processor governed by its own retention policy. An operator's privacy page should name that provider; if it names nobody at all, the omission is worth noticing.

When No Bill Is in Your Name

Address proof assumes a household where the utilities are yours. Plenty of Canadian players live with family, sublet, or rent a room where nothing is billed to them, and the standard document list simply does not exist for them. Operators accept alternatives more often than they advertise: a bank statement, a mobile phone account, a tax slip, an insurance certificate, a signed lease, or correspondence from a provincial body. Ask support which of these the licence permits before uploading three documents that will all be refused for the same reason.

The account that pays out quickly is almost always the one that finished verification before it held a balance worth arguing over.
